Hi friend,

My husband and I took the kids to Kalahari in Sandusky, Ohio this past weekend and we had so much fun! (Thank you to my lovely assistant Giulia for suggesting it!) Lots of swimming, arcade games and yummy food and ice cream. It was nice to get out of the house for a bit, and get the winter wiggles out, as Giulia put it. ❤️

I'm very much looking forward to spring. The winter can be so long and dark, and when the days start to feel longer and the daffodils start to pop up, it's pretty exciting. The collection I made during Bonnie Christine's Immersion Course in 2020 was based on the arrival of spring after a long winter. That collection ended up getting licensed on fabric for PBS Fabrics, and I'm so proud to have seen those patterns come to life, especially since the theme means so much to me. (Enrollment for Immersion closes tonight, in case you were interested!)

I hope you have a lovely week!

xoxo, Genna

DRAWING TIP — You don't need fancy art supplies to make "good" art.

One of the things I love most about crayons is how accessible they are. They’re inexpensive, and many of us already have a box lying around. Unlike fancy art supplies, crayons don’t feel too precious. I’m not afraid to “waste” them, which makes it easier to experiment and draw just for fun. Using them brought me back to the playful headspace I had as a kid, when I’d fill page after page with rainbows and suns without a second thought.

When you focus on play, you tap into your intuition. You stop worrying about whether your art is good enough to sell or license, and you simply enjoy the process. That’s when creativity opens up. For me, moving my hands, even in the simplest way, helps me quiet the fear of the blank page.

We Need Your Art

I have been recommending this book over and over again in 75 Art! It explores how small steps in your creative practice are all you need to keep moving forward.

"It's fun to see that this artist world can be more collaborative and encouraging instead of competitive. You don't have to lose for me to win. We can both win. So that's been amazing to see."

Do you have a success story to share after taking one of my courses or reading one of my free guides? I'd love to hear it! Tell me about it here.

New Blog Post!

Imposter syndrome is keeping you and your art practice stuck. Here are three things I learned to change my whole mindset around how I sat down to draw, how I talked to myself while making art, and the supplies I thought I needed to use in order to make "good art."

Signature Style Stories: 5 of 5 (Click here to listen to an audio version of this email). Hi Reader, This is the last email in my Signature Style Stories series (catch up here), and I want to end with what I think is both the simplest and the most radical idea I have to share: Make art you love. That's it. That's the whole strategy. I know that sounds too easy. But hear me out. Do you feel pressure to make art that's on trend? Marketable? When you sit down to create, do you find yourself...

Signature Style Stories: 4 of 5 (Click here to listen to an audio version of this email). Hi Reader, In my last email, I talked about why now is the best time in history to make money from your art. If you missed it, catch up here. Today I want to talk about why you might have a hard time taking advantage of all the opportunities we discussed in our last email. Have you ever made something that you thought was SO good, and you worried you’d never make anything that good again? So then you...

Signature Style Stories: 3 of 5 (Click here to listen to an audio version of this email.) Hi Reader, In my last email, I made the case for why your creative voice matters more than ever. If you missed it, catch up here. Let me take you back to the late '80s and early '90s. I was a kid with Print Shop Deluxe and a dot matrix printer, making greeting cards and happy birthday banners (and thinking I was absolutely incredible). There was no Procreate, no iPads, no Spoonflower, no Etsy, no...
